(김포=연합뉴스) 최근 월북한 것으로 추정된 20대 북한 이탈 주민(탈북민)김모(24)씨는 지난달 지인 여성을 자택에서 성폭행한 혐의로 경찰 조사를 받고 구속영장이 발부된 상태였다.
관계 당국은 탈북 시기를 2017년으로 압축했으며 이 시기 탈북민 중 연락이 닿지 않는 김씨를 유력한 월북자로 특정해 조사 중인 것으로 전해졌다.

(김포=연합뉴스) 손현규 기자 = 최근 월북한 것으로 추정된 20대 북한 이탈 주민(탈북민)은 이달 18일 새벽 택시를 타고 강화도 내 접경지역에 간 것으로 확인됐다.

경기남부지방경찰청은 이달 18일 탈북민 김모(24) 씨가 택시를 타고 인천 강화도 접경지에 내린 사실을 확인했다고 27일 밝혔다.

김씨는 이달 17일 지인인 탈북민 유튜버의 차량을 이용해 강화도로 이동했고, 다음 날인 18일 오전 2시 20분께 택시를 이용해 강화도 내 접경지로 간 뒤 하차한 것으로 파악됐다.

김씨가 택시에서 내린 강화도 접경지역 인근에서는 평소 사용하던 그의 가방이 발견됐다.

그는 강화도 일대에서 군 감시망을 피하기 위해 철책 밑 배수로를 통해 탈출한 후 헤엄쳐 북측으로 넘어간 것으로 추정된다.

김씨는 지난달 강간 혐의로 한 차례 피의자 신분 조사를 받은 뒤 경찰에 입건됐고 이달에는 구속영장이 발부된 상태였다.

그는 지난달 12일 오전 1시 20분께 김포시 자택에서 평소 알고 지낸 여성 A씨 성폭행한 혐의를 받았다.

경찰은 A씨의 남자친구가 사건 발생 2시간 만인 당일 오전 3시 26분께 112에 신고했다고 밝혔다.

경찰은 신고 즉시 피해자가 있던 인천 한 병원에서 증거물 채취해 국립과학수사연구원에 감정을 의뢰했고, 이달 4일 국과수로부터 피해자의 몸에서 피의자의 유전자 정보(DNA)가 검출됐다는 통보도 받았다.

경찰 관계자는 "피의자가 '술에 취해 기억이 나지 않는다'는 주장했으나 DNA가 검출돼 범죄 혐의가 있는 것으로 보고 수사 중이었다"고 말했다.

김씨에게 차량을 빌려준 탈북민 유튜버는 김씨의 지인으로부터 그가 "월북하겠다는 말을 했다"는 이야기를 전해 듣고는 이달 18일 오후 경찰서에 찾아가 해당 사실을 알렸으나 경찰관이 무시했다고도 주장했다.

그러나 경찰은 당일 4차례에 걸쳐 "아는 동생(피의자)이 차량을 빌려 간 후, 반환하지 않는다"는 112 신고를 접수했으나 월북과 관련한 내용은 없었다고 해명했다.

경찰은 이후 이달 19일 오전 1시께 '달러를 바꿨다고 하네요. 어제 달러를 가지고 북한에 넘어가면 좋겠다면서 교동도를 갔었다네요'라는 사회관계망서비스(SNS) 내용을 확보하고 20일 김씨를 출국 금지 조치했다고 밝혔다.

경찰은 사안의 중요성을 고려해 합동조사단을 편성하고 성폭력 사건 수사 과정이나 월북 관련 제보에 적절하게 조치했는지 조사할 방침이다.
